The Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Fashola has ordered the immediate seal-off of the Oko Baba Sawmill gutted by fire on Tuesday January 8, 2012.
The directive of the state helmsman to condoned off the Sawmill was contained in a statement obtained by News Bytes and signed by Dr Femi Oke-Osanyintolu, the Managing Director, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA).
The statement indicated that displaced residents of the burnt sawmill, which sources put at about 3,000 persons have been evacuated to the state relief camp in Agbowa.
“Sequel to the directive of His Excellency, the Oko baba area of Lagos that was gutted with fire yesterday has been cordoned off and the internally displaced people have been evacuated to the relief camp in Agbowa. The camp is hereby declared opened”.
The MD of LASEMA also gave assurance that its officials are on ground while also confirming that “all stakeholders involved in emergency (services) have been informed”.
The Oko Baba sawmill located at the end of the popular Redemption Way (formerly Cemetery Street) and overlooks the Third Mainland Bridge and the Lagos Lagoon went up in flames Tuesday.
