President Goodluck Jonathan is not afraid to visit any part of the country contrary to insinuations in some quarters, said the Special Adviser to the President on Political Matters, Ahmed Gulak.
Gulak, who was reacting to Thursday’s visit of newly formed All Progressives Congress APC governors to Maiduguri, Borno State and insinuations that leaders should be courageous to visit any part of the country stated that to demonstrate that the President is not afraid to visit the state, Jonathan would be in Maiduguri come Thursday.
The governors had chosen Maiduguri for their meeting to prove a point that “there should not be a no-go area for any Nigerian leader.”
“Who is afraid to visit Borno State? The governors are just trying to pre-empt the President. The President will be on a state visit to Borno State next week, March 7 to be precise”, Gulak emphasised.
The Northeastern states has remained the centre of activities of the fundamental Islamic sect, Boko Haram, with Borno, Yobe and Bauchi the worst hit. Jonathan however has not visited the state since when the insurgency began in 2009, which has claimed over 3,000 lives according to a UN report.
