President Goodluck Jonathan has raised a high-power delegation to represent the Nigerian government at the formal installation of Pope Francis at the Vatican City on March 19.
The team to be led by the Senate President David Mark will attend the new Pope’s inauguration mass, and also deliver a congratulatory letter from President Jonathan.
The Minister of Aviation, Princess Stella Oduah, the Minister of State (Foreign Affairs), Prof. Viola Onwuliri and the President of the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria, Archbishop Ignatius Kaigama are billed to go with Senator Mark for the historic event.
Also among the delegates are the Special Adviser on media on Publicity, Dr Reuben Abati, the Chaplain of the Presidential Villa Chapel, Venerable Obioma Onwuzurumba and the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Christian Pilgrims Commission, Mr. John Kennedy Opara.
Pope Francis was elected by the College of Cardinals on Wednesday, March 13, to succeed Pope Benedict XVI who stepped down voluntarily from the papacy in February on health grounds.
