The Supreme Council for Sharia in Nigeria (SCSN) yesterday said it will be fire for fire should the Movement for the Emancipation of Niger Delta (MEND) make do with the threat to attack Muslims, mosques and other Islamic institutions on May 31.
Rising from its emergency meeting in Kaduna, the council in a communiqué jointly signed by Dr. Ibrahim Datti Ahmad, Sheikh Abdurrasheed Haiyatullah and four others said if government refused to call MEND and its collaborators to order, the Muslim Ummah of Nigeria would have no option other than to take up the challenge to be “fire for fire.”
“The council wishes to state categorically that if the government refuses to call MEND and its collaborators to order, the Muslim Ummah of Nigeria would have no option other than to take up the challenge by returning fire for fire. And in the end the MEND and their collaborators would be the losers. We condemn in strong terms this terrorist threat and calls on the Federal Government, as the custodian of peace and security, to check the excesses of this terrorist organization.
The council observes with dismay the silence of government, security agencies, political and the traditional leaders on this urgent national issue.
“According to MEND, any cease fire can only be possible at the intervention of Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) among others. Does that mean that the threat is at the instance of CAN?”, it said.
The communiqué said the country’s security challenge reached a lamentable dimension such that there are in existence fake army general, fake universities, fake NYSC camps for training terrorists pretending to be genuine government outfits.
The council also called on the government to investigate “the extra judicial criminal genocide against the innocent people of Maga, Borno State by the security agents of government. The culprits must be brought to justice.”
