A coalition of Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) has called on the House of Representatives to investigate the recent controversial grounding of Rivers State governor, Rotimi Amaechi’s aircraft in Akure.
This is contained in a petition to the Speaker, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, jointly signed by the Executive Director of African Network for Environmental and Economic Justice (ANEEJ), David Ugolor; National Coordinator, Ogoni Solidarity Forum (OSF), Celestine Akpobari; Founder of League of Awareness, Makelemi Erhuvwuvotu and a member of End Impunity Campaign (EIC), Benard Onorokakpene Oyabevwe.
It said the defence of both the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) and the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) that the clearance approval for the aircraft had expired is untenable.
“We humbly believe that actions like these should be discouraged and the motives behind them unravelled and sanctioned. Consequent upon the above, we earnestly urge you to use your good offices to set up an ad hoc committee to intensively investigate the actions of both the NCAA and NAMA to avoid repetition of such lawless acts and forestall the entrenchment of over-zealousness on the part of agencies of government in their relations, ensure fairness, justice and equity to the end of fully protecting the integrity of the state, the government and its functionaries. For as they say, a stitch in time saves nine” the letter reads.
