Four states in North West Nigeria have been thrown into total darkness since Thursday last week. This was caused by three high tension power cables struck by lightning at Rafin Guzuma in Maiyama Local Governement area of Kebbi state, leaving the region without light for the fifth day. The blackout has reportedly affected power supply to the Niger Republic.
Abdussalam Abubakar, a resident of Rafin Guzuma who spoke with News Bytes says there has not be any sign of repairs or any comment from officials of the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) although part of Kebbi state was on Friday served from the Kaduna grid for about 3 hours, the only time power was made available since the incident happened on Thursday.
Kaduna is reportedly supplied power from the Shiroro Dam and it feeds Katsina, Zamfara, Sokoto states as well as part of Kebbi state while the other part get power supplied from the Kainji dam.
