Bolzano (ITA) will welcome the up-and-coming elite for the last of the seven-stop circuit of the FINA Diving Grand Prix 2013, from June 28th to 30th.
The event will provide the last opportunity for divers from top nations in the sport to fine-tune their preparation in the lead-up to the 15th FINA World Championships in Barcelona, Spain, next July.
Going into Bolzano, China’s Chao He (current world number 8) positions himself as top qualifier in the men’s 3m springboard. He dominated the first four legs of the Grand Prix in the event and enjoys a comfortable margin ahead of closest challengers Zhiyi Sun (CHN, world number 13) and Constantin Blaha (AUT, world number 16).
On the higher board, Jian Yang (CHN, world number 5) has managed to hold at bay Maxim Bouchard (CAN, world number 15) and Siyi Xie (CHN, world number 21), who currently share the second spot.
Making the women’s 3m springboard top-3 so far are Jiao Liu (CHN, world number 7), Dolores Hernandez (MEX, world number 12) and Han Wang (CHN, world number 6).
In the 10m platform, Jie Lian (CHN, world number 10) carries the lead while teammate Xiaohui Huang (world number 13) and Ukraine’s Iulia Prokopchuk (world number 7) are currently on a tie for second place.
China tops the ranking in all four synchro events.
Last year, the traditional diving powerhouse swept all events except men’s 3m springboard, which was won by Spain’s Javier Illana.
