Kano Pillars striker and Super Eagles hitman, Mohammed Gambo, has said there is no truth in the news making the rounds that he has signed for a Tunisian club and will therefore be unavailable for Super Eagles return leg in Abidjan against the Elephants of Cote D’ Ivoire.
Speculations were rife at the weekend that Gambo had been hooked by Tunisian side, Club Africaine leading to Eagles boss, Stephen Keshi, making desperate enquiries about the situation before making his list for the Ivorian leg public. But Eagles Team Scribe, Dayo Enebi Achor, quotes Keshi as saying Gambo has denied any deal with the Tunisian side.
“I have just spoken to Gambo and he has said he has not penned any deal with a Tunisian club or any club outside the country for that matter and that is why he will still be eligible for the return leg against Cote D’ Ivoire”, Keshi said emphatically. Gambo scored the first goal in the Eagles 4-1 annihilation of the Elephants at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium in Kaduna last Saturday.
The gangling Kano Pillars strikers has been a major part of Keshi’s home based squad and was part of the team that went to the recent Confederation Cup in Brazil, where Nigeria was rated fifth by FIFA out of the eight teams that took part in the championship that was won by host Brazil.
Meanwhile, Super Eagles boss, Stephen Okechukwu Keshi has on behalf of the entire team sent a passionate birthday message to Cross River State Governor, His Excellency Senator Liyel Imoke, who clocked 52 on Wednesday.
Keshi who said he is congratulating the governor for his special love for him, the NFF and the Super Eagles, said he wished the governor many happy returns on behalf of the passionate football public.
“As my inlaw, mentor, true lover of the national team and benefactor of football in Nigeria that contributed in no small measure to the Super Eagles winning the Afcon 2013 Nations Cup, I want thank God for preserving your life and wishing you many happy returns of the day. May the goodness that you radiate to Nigerian football and the Super Eagles be given back to you by the Almighty in a million fold”.
The Super Eagles have been playing all their Nations Cup and World Cup qualifiers in Calabar, the Cross River State capital and in all the games the governor has been present physically to the delight of the leadership of the NFF headed by Alhaji Aminu Maiagari.
Already the final leg World Cup qualifier against Malawi, scheduled for
September 6, has already been tentatively fixed for Calabar, which has hosted all national team qualifiers with outstanding victories.
